Today, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) introduced a joint resolution for a Green New Deal that outlines a plan for a just transition to renewable energy while creating millions of family-sustaining jobs and mitigating deeply entrenched systemic injustices.
We are inspired by the leadership of young people who…are taking action to hold our leaders accountable and are demanding a Green New Deal to protect their future and that of generations to come.
At the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE), we are thrilled that these Green New Deal resolutions propose a vision for a policy framework that aims to tackle climate change at the speed and scale that science and justice requires. We commend Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Markey for their leadership in bringing these resolutions to Congress and we also recognize the work of many organizations and communities who have been fighting for climate justice for years, modeling climate solutions and resilience, and building the social and political power that allowed these resolutions to come to fruition.
We are inspired by the leadership of young people who turned out in record numbers to vote in the 2018 midterm elections, are taking action to hold our leaders accountable and are demanding a Green New Deal to protect their future and that of generations to come. We urge legislators all across the country to stand with young people and all communities on the frontlines of climate change, in supporting a Green New Deal.
We are committed to working with our network of over 300,000 young people and 21,000 educators, partner organizations, supporters, elected leaders and members of Congress to continue to strengthen the Green New Deal plan and build the public support needed to make the Green New Deal a reality.
