This blog was written using information from Bellflower Unified School District’s Energy Conservation Program Watt’s Up? Newsletter.

We’re in our second semester of the Biggest Loser: Energy competition, which is all about Action Teams shedding as many pounds of nasty CO2 in their schools as they possibly can. Last semester, Bellflower High School in Southern California was participating in an energy reduction competition in their district while they were also rocking the Biggest Loser: Energy competition. In fact, they won first place in this district-wide energy reduction competition! Check it out:

Top 5 Sites – Total Money Savings:

1) Bellflower HS – $26,621.54

2) Mayfair HS –  $16,619.42

3) Ramona – $14,495.39

4) Williams – $11, 328.54

5) Woodruff – $9,380.35

Bellflower saved more than $10,000 more than the second place winner – wow! But, and maybe more importantly, the entire Bellflower Unified School District reduced their electricity consumption by a whopping 669,149 kWh. That’s the equivalent to 213 metric tons of CO2 being saved from going into the atmosphere, 40 cars being removed from the highways and 5,710 tree seedlings being planted and grown for 10 years.

Congrats to all of the competing schools! Are you an Action Team who is doing the Biggest Loser: Energy competition? We can’t wait to see how much CO2 you’ll shed. Who knows, you may even end up being featured right here on our blog, just like Bellflower.
