This is a guest post by Daniela, Shreya and Kavi, all members of ACE’s Youth Advisory Board.
Hey, everyone! It’s Daniela, Shreya and Kavi from the Youth Advisory Board and we’re inviting all you high school students to the first annual Green Teen Summit.
When is it? Saturday, April 14, from 10- 3:30.
Where is it? At the Harker Upper School in San Jose, California.
But most importantly… what is it? That’s the exciting part.
The Green Teen Summit is a half-day conference, an opportunity for Bay Area high school students to act on their passion for the environment together. We will be inspired, connect with other students and learn tangible skills to green our schools and communities.
Highlights of the day will include: Keynote speakerBill McKibben– co-founder of 350.org and “probably the country’s most important environmentalist” according to the Boston Globe. He has coordinated over 15,000 climate actions since 2009, written 12 books and has led the charge to defeat Keystone XL… AKA, this is a super rare, super AMAZING opportunity to hear him speak AND ask questions. (Can you tell we’re kind of fangirls?…)
– A mini-presentation and leadership training by ACE itself! The skills they teach even helped us plan this event and can help you be a leader in any endeavor, whether it’s a green club or something else. 🙂
– Ethan Burke, ACE Educator, will bring BioTour to us. He and his team toured America in a solar-powered bus, and you know he has awesome stories to share from meeting so many people and witnessing so many green efforts across the country. You’ll get to explore the bus on campus.
– Lunch with green business leaders!
– Skills workshops on topics like “How to Compost” or “Green Fashion,” and much more.
Phew. That’s a lot packed into one really fun Saturday.
Whether you are the leader of a 5-star Action Team, or a student just exploring your interest in being green- we want you at the Green Teen Summitto listen to inspiring speakers, enhance your leadership potential, learn tangible skills and share what you’ve been doing with other students.
In a time of growing complacency with the planet’s decline, we want to come together as young people and remind the world that not only is fighting climate change necessary, it’s cool and fun, too.
You can buy tickets (or register and pay at the door) at http://greenteensummit.eventbrite.com/ for $10 (including light breakfast & lunch) until Friday, March 16th. Then, the price becomes $15.
As excited as we are? Please pass along the link to everyone – hit Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr… you know how it works!
If you have any questions or want to get involved, email us at [email protected]. Thanks for reading and see you there!
