Senior Campaigns Manager

Location: Remote (Based anywhere in the United States)

OVERVIEW

The climate emergency is here. The world as we know it is running out of time and the window for small, incremental action has closed. Instead, we need an emergency-level response to avert climate catastrophe—and leaders with the courage and mandate to take bold action. Our critical window of opportunity to sound the alarm is ever-narrowing and the time to act is now.

ACE’s mission is to educate, inspire and support young people to lead the fight for their future. We achieve our mission by reaching tens of millions of young people with our programs each year, training a new generation of leaders, amplifying youth voices to shift the narrative, and increasing diverse youth participation in our democracy.

Our staff and board members are dynamic, diverse, and talented, and our team is currently growing to meet this critical moment of opportunity.

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Campaigns Manager works to develop, implement, and coordinate strategic campaigns in key states and nationally that align with ACE’s campaigns framework: 1) climate education and storytelling to shift the public narrative, 2) civic engagement to increase youth participation in our democracy, and 3) climate advocacy to end the era of fossil fuels and usher in a new renewable energy future. The scope of responsibilities includes:

  • Supporting and leading the implementation of campaigns through ACE’s distributed organizing program (Action Team Network), peer-to-peer influencer program (Creator Collective), Youth Action Network of more than 860,000 youth in all 50 states, and other ACE programs as they become relevant.
  • Performing field-based organizing work in partnership with young people in our key geographies and our field-based staff.
  • Developing and managing communications strategy, planning and implementation for campaigns and advocacy initiatives, and utilizing a variety of digital tools to implement communications and actions (Ex: Engaging Networks, MobileCommons, Salesforce, GetThru, OutreachCircle, and more).
  • In collaboration with the Campaigns Team and Distributed Organizing Team, ensure that young people from ACE’s network are meaningfully engaged in campaigns strategy, implementation, and creative approaches to building long-term relationships and power to win campaigns.

This is a full-time, remote position based anywhere in the United States, with a slight preference for the following states: AZ, FL, MI, MN, OH, NC, NV, PA, TX, WI. The Senior Campaigns Manager will work from home, meet regularly by video chat with ACE team members, partners, and youth, and conduct activities both online and in-person. The Senior Campaigns Manager must be available for regular travel within the United States, to participate in fieldwork, conferences, actions, organizing, events, and to attend staff retreats.

KEYS TO SUCCESS

  • You are a campaigner through and through. Organizing comes naturally to you and you see both the value of field-based and digital organizing, and how powerful they can be in combination. You’ve worked on campaigns that range from climate justice to voting rights, or other social causes that are transforming our society.
  • You prioritize building a community of people to share the wins and the struggles of organizing. You develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and can bring in allies and coalition partners from marginalized communities, such as people of color, people with disabilities, low-income families, homeless/unhoused people, and immigrants. You know how to build alliances and find points of collaboration even when there are competing interests.
  • You understand the in and outs of campaign building and enjoy building campaign plans from scratch that prioritize building local and national people power. You have a track record of accomplishing ambitious goals and taking initiative and getting results even when there are obstacles. You set a high bar and meet it because you think three (or 30) steps ahead to anticipate hurdles and come up with pragmatic solutions. You plan backward and involve stakeholders appropriately.
  • You practice and prioritize building teams that are heard, respected, valued, and retained. You approach leadership with a mindset of “power with” rather than “power over” and regularly include others in decision-making. You have experience managing multiple projects and keeping tasks from slipping through the cracks. You use resources wisely and can manage a team of staff, consultants, and volunteers to leverage time and talent for impact.
  • Commitment to racial equity and social justice: You recognize the role of race, income, age, immigration status, and other identities in shaping climate disparities, and you consistently amplify community voices to advocate for more equitable policy solutions. You recognize how your own identities show up in the work, and welcome, reflect on and act on feedback with an eye toward continuous learning about race, ability, and other lines of difference.
