Hannah Matthews
North Carolina Action Fellow
North Carolina
Hannah is from Rockingham County, NC and is a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) in Durham, NC. She is a Sustainability Project Leader at her school and is in charge of the Rotary Interact Club. She loves getting involved in current events and raising awareness. One way she does this is by teaching a seminar on gun reform at her school and leading the Student’s Demand Action Club. In her free time, Hannah is a captain for her varsity basketball team and leads activities for special needs adults in the Durham community.
Hannah first became interested in climate change at the beginning of her high school career and the passion has grown tremendously since coming to NCSSM as a junior. She enjoys taking classes related to the subject of climate change like ecology and environmental science. Climate change is an extremely important topic to her because she believes her generation will be the individuals to make an impact and inspire change. She thinks that young people need to foster change and take action now in order to have long lasting beneficial impacts. She wanted to join the Fellowship to educate others about the relevance of climate change and to effect direct positive change. The most interesting aspect of climate action to her is renewable energy because there are so many different options, and there is always room for technological advancements.
