Galen Xiang
Action Fellow Alumni
Atlanta
Galen Xiang was born in the wee hours of the morning at approximately 5:00AM at Northside Hospital. Legend has it that one thousand cranes sprung down from the heavens and at that instant he was born, signaling the beginning of a glorious and prosperous era for the people of the world.
While this may be a slight exaggeration, Galen is now a senior at Chamblee High School. In his free time, Galen enjoys playing the piano, running, and playing video games. He has always had a passion for the natural world and was fascinated by animals at an early age. This interest has led him to take initiative at his school and within his community. He is currently the President of the Environmental Club at his school and he is responsible for setting up service projects, such as planting trees and monitoring the water quality of streams. Galen was introduced to the issue of climate change when he went on a trip to Jekyll Island, a small island off the coast of Georgia. He was amazed by the beauty of the unique ecosystem and he learned that such environments were being threatened by issues such as pollution and climate change. Now, as an ACE Fellow, he intends to enhance his leadership skills and spread awareness about climate change.
