Evie Fitzpatrick

Fellow

North Carolina

Evie Fitzpatrick was born on Long Island, New York, before moving to Greensboro, North Carolina in 2017. 2 years later, she finally moved to Thomasville, North Carolina, where she now resides. She is a sophomore at Davidson Early College High School, where she is a part of Quizbowl and T.E.A.M.S (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science). Outside of school, she enjoys writing and playing softball, but activism, and specifically climate change, is something she cares about very deeply.

Evie started getting interested in climate change when she joined NC Strikes Back, a youth group dedicated to the climate issues unique to North Carolina. Once she joined, she realized how important it was to speak out about the effects of climate change on not just the environment, but also on how it can directly affect people. She now knows how vital it is for young people to be involved with climate change (especially since she is a young person herself!) since they are the next generation and need to start tackling the issue now, before the damage can get any worse. The most exciting aspect of climate action to Evie is the connection of climate change to environmental justice, since many people do not even know that those 2 intertwine. She hopes through this fellowship that she can help in mobilizing young people to vote for officials who care about climate change and will prioritize it.
