Ananya Seelam
North Carolina Action Fellow
North Carolina
Ananya Seelam is a junior at Enloe High School in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and has lived in the state ever since. Ananya has visited several parts of the world that are being affected by climate change like Alaska and India. Going to these locations opened her eyes to some of the direct impacts that climate change is having on communities. She realized that if people continue to engage in activities that harm the planet, then the rights of future generations to live happy and healthy lives will be taken away. Ananya wants to advocate for climate justice in order to protect future generations and the planet.
Ananya believes that climate change is an important issue because it is effects the lives of future generations. She believes that climate change is a large barrier for mankind and that if humans want to continue living on this planet, they need to take care of it. Educating others about climate change is how Ananya believes she can make a difference. So far, Ananya has worked with ACE to speak with local government officials about current issues and threats that face North Carolina. Ananya is excited to continue to work with ACE and the Action Fellows this year.
In her free time, Ananya loves reading about the future of astronomy and space. Her favorite show is The Cosmos on Netflix. She is also on her school’s Speech and Debate Team and her school’s Golf Team. She is an active member of her community as she volunteers, tutors, and learns and performs Indian classical dance with a group of girls in her community.
