A quick guide on voting in-person before Election day
What is Early Voting?
If you can’t make it to the polls on Election Day, you may be able to vote in person ahead of time. Early voting allows you to vote in person at a location in your registered county, sometimes even a month before Election Day.
How to Vote Early
- Register to vote at your current address before your state’s deadline. This determines where your early voting location will be.
- Research is key! Find the correct location and hours for your polling place. This may vary from election day.
- Bring the appropriate ID requirements for your state.
- At the polling location, you will be expected to sign in, receive a ballot, complete it, and turn it in.
How is it Different from Absentee Voting?
Voting early means actually going to a polling place to cast a ballot.
Absentee voting, also known as voting by mail, is a system where registered voters can cast their ballots via mail.
Both methods are early voting practices, and it just depends on your preference. For example, you might want to vote by mail because you’re immunocompromised, or you might vote early in person because you have to work on election day!
Your Vote is Your Voice
In a democracy, your vote is your voice, and decisions are made by those who show up at the polls! The first step in ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard equally is getting as many people as possible registered to vote.
