ACE is calling Cincinnati students to tackle one of our country’s biggest climate challenges: waste. ACE is proud to be partnering with the Cincinnati Zoo in the Zero Landfill Challenge. Rated as one of the top zoo’s in America by peer zoological parks, the Cincinnati Zoo is committed to conservation, education, and achieving Zero Waste. The Zero Landfill Challenge is a challenge-based, collaborative learning experience that empowers students to “inspire their communities to reduce waste, live responsibly, and act naturally.”
On March 16th, ACE coordinated a student leadership training in partnership with the Cincinnati Zoo to motivate students to rise to this challenge, take action in their schools and build leadership skills. The winning schools will not necessarily be the school that recycles the most, but the winners will be schools where students successfully inspired their peers, got their entire community involved, or submitted their results in a powerful and motivational way that calls others to take action.
The challenge is meant to generate systemic change and Zero Waste practices that will be sustainable for years to come. This is an opportunity for Cincinnati students to step up as leaders and leave a legacy in their schools and communities. Greater Cincinnati area schools can register for the challenge here until April 30th. The challenge ends May 6th and the winners will be announced on May 10th.
The grand prize:
– School Spotlight on the Cincinnati Zoo’s website
– 20 free field trips for the entire school to use in the 2013-2014 academic year
– A special gift from one of our Zero Waste Ambassador Animals
– An award presentation by zoo staff and animal ambassadors in the winner’s classroom.
