Niyati Kandekar

Fellow

North Carolina

Niyati is a rising junior in the IB(International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program and attends South Iredell High School. She was born in Pune, India but moved to the U.S. as a baby. She has lived in Connecticut and Massachusetts but has lived in Mooresville, NC since 2010.  She enjoys playing tennis, hanging out with friends and family, and hiking. Niyati was introduced to the ACE Fellowship from a friend and decided that it was something she wanted to be a part of since climate change is an important issue to her.

Niyati has always felt strongly about climate change and has found that people tend to skip over the issue even though it is extremely prevalent in the world today. She finds that climate change affects everyone, especially the future generations so this generation has to find ways to bring climate change into the spotlight. She is interested in renewable energy sources and to be an advocate for the systemic change by educating this generation. Niyati loves working with kids and believes that educating kids on climate change at a younger age will spark an interest in future generations in changing the world. Her goal is to continue to learn and understand more about climate change and to continue to be a climate change activist as she grows older. The Fellowship aspect she is most excited about learning more about what other fellows are passionate about and working with other climate leaders.
