What did you do for 10/10/10?
The Boston Latin School Youth Climate Action Network (BLS YouthCAN) got to work, building and planting raised beds in front of their school. This year, the club is focused on Food and Sustainability. They have some great activities coming up!
Read below for their garden-planting story and to learn how you can join them in celebrating sustainable food in the Boston area.

Hello Everyone!
I’m from BLS YouthCAN! On 10/9/10 we started working on our school garden, and we dug that dirt like nobody’s business!! After making room for three beds of vegetables we poured in special soil shipped in from a farm to insure that our garden would be successful and prosperous.
Then on 10/10/10 (the day of the 350.org Global Work Party) we hammered down the borders of the garden and planted the seedlings for healthier ingredients to be incorporated in our school lunches. We’re planning to grow chard, romaine lettuce, bok choy, collard greens and arugula. (yum yum!)
Also, we’d like to invite everybody out there in the Boston area to the first annual Food Fair on November 13th from 10 to 1 at Boston Latin School.
At this event we’ll be teaching and having activities, and games relating to sustainable food. There’s going to be workshops, free give-aways, vendor tables, and we’re even going to make smoothies using bike power!
Also there is a poster contest to promote school gardens, sustainable food sources, and healthier lunches. The deadline for the poster is the day of the fair, and the prize will be $100. It’s going to be a really great time, and we hope to see you there!
