Project Greenway Rehearsals

This is a guest blog by Symone Baskerville, student at Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago.
With the Teens Environmental summit approaching rapidly, what better way to prepare than a Project Greenway rehearsal. Since the fashion show concluded the entire summit, it made sense that it needed to be great!
So the models got to work by rocking the runway. Even though it was just rehearsals, the models brought their fiercest walks to the runway.
I asked one designer and model team what made them want to be apart of the event? “We got interested in recycling and helping the community with simple events like this.” This model will be walking in an outfit made of newspaper, tablecloths, blankets and lots of plastic materials.
It was really exciting getting to talk to Dana Rae Marigmen (creator of Project Greenway) about the fashion show; I asked if she had any designs going down the runway this Saturday? “I actually do this year. But not last year, I was too busy creating the event! I’m actually creating an outfit and jewelry out of bottle tabs.” Her inspiration for the design has come mostly from musical artists. DanaRae was interested in fashion before Project Greenway. As she puts it, “Fashion has always been my passion; I think it grew tremendously stronger after I created the event.”
Although we know the designs are the most important part of any fashion show, we have to thank the models as well as the designers that showed up to last Saturdays rehearsals, also all the parents friends and family that were came with some of the designers and models, and also a very special thanks to all the staff that are making Project Runway the best that it can be!
I can’t wait to see all of the designs go down the runway on Saturday, May 12. I hope to see you there for the full TEENS Summit as well as the fashion show!
