This past Saturday (May 5), thousands of of climate activists in over 100 locations gathered together recognize Climate Impacts Day to “connect the dots” between climate change the extreme weather we’ve been having. Organized by 350.org and climate activist Bill McKibben, the day was organized to make more and more people aware that yes, climate change is to blame for these extreme and mounting world-wide weather disasters.

It’s happening all around the world. Here’s just a snapshot of the extreme weather events that have happened in the past year:

Vermont (my beloved home state) was drastically hit by Hurricane Irene. It caused an insane amount of flooding, destroyed bridges and buildings and forced people to evacuate their homes.

This past March, the city of Portland, Oregon had a record rainfall.

This year, India has had record-breaking temperatures, which has effected the wheat crops.

If sea levels continue to rise at the rate they are currently, scientists predict that the island of Manhattan could eventually be underwater.

Island nations are already evacuating their homes and land because of rising sea levels.

It’s time to be connecting the dots between these events and climate change everyday. Check out the images from the events held on May 5 around the world and get inspired to make every day a climate awareness day. What will you do to spread the word about the impacts of climate change? Tell us! Post a comment below or on ACE’s Facebook page.
