This is a guest post by Ikya Kandula, student at Davidson Academy in Reno and ACE Ambassador.

Hi! I’m Ikya Kandula, a student at the Davidson Academy and President of the Green Earth Community Knowledge Organization (GECKO). We’re trying to get every major apartment complex in Reno to start recycling. Did you know that only two percent of apartment complexes serviced by the major trash/recycling hauler in Reno recycle? That means all the waste, including tons of recyclables that aren’t being recycled, for over 200,000 residents is going to ONE landfill in all of Reno! We have the potential to save thousands of dollars for apartment dwellers and the City of Reno, not to mention time and energy. If this new recycling program is added to Reno’s Franchise Agreement, apartment dwellers can have access to recycling bins with no impact on their lease and apartment owners can provide these services with no cost to themWe need to start caring about recycling in our community.

Please help us out by reading, signing, and sharing this petition with any and all Reno residents: http://www.change.org/petitions/require-recycling-in-reno-apartments-reno-residents-only.

This is only the first step to making Reno the Greenest Little City in the World!

Also check out this video of Ikya explaining the importance of recycling on her local news channel.
