Winter Wonderland

A few weeks ago, we posted about the IPCC report that cited extreme weather was a result of climate change. Plus, based on the whacky weather from this past year that have included much heavier rains and precipitation as well as hotter heat waves, we’ve already been seeing some of its effects. Why? According to climatologist Kevin Trenberth “There is a systematic influence on all those weather events now-a-days because of the fact that there is this extra water vapor lurking around in the atmosphere than there used to be say 30 years ago. It’s about a 4% extra amount, it invigorates the storms, it provides plenty of moisture for these storms…” (for more on the weather patterns, check out Climate Progress‘ article “IPCC Extreme Weather Report Is Another Blown Chance to Explain the Catastrophes Coming If We Do Nothing.”
I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit lately because this is my first winter in California and I have been surprised that the temperatures have been roughly the same, if not warmer, in the Northeast, where I left. During the week of November 14, it was 50 degrees or above every single day in Vermont. In November! What has the temperature been where you live?
Now on to other wintery matters- ACE’s Seasons Greenings FUNdraiser! We in the Oakland headquarters are super excited for this event that is now only 3 days away. So excited, in fact, that we have a tent set up in the office. Huh, a tent? It’s just one of the (many) incredibly rad silent auction items that will be featured in the eco-fabulous silent auction the night of Seasons Greenings. As if the silent auction isn’t enough to get you to come, there will be amazing food from Acre Gourmet, a hip jazz funk band Con Brio and much, much more. Get your tix today to party for the plant at the best party on the planet!
