SHFT

Celebrities have a lot of impact. If a celebrity says something is cool it totally must be. I am personally a big fan of heart throb Adrian Grenier, who plays Vincent Chase in HBO’s hit series Entourage. So this morning when I was checking up on the Huffington Post Green section, I was pretty excited to see Adrian had recently opened up his second ‘Pop-Up’ shop in Los Angeles, a hipper-than-hip gallery that is a curation of Adrian’s and film producer Peter Glatzer’s favorite green lifestyle tips and designs.

The gallery, called SHFT, opens up tomorrow night, October 21, and will remain open only for one week, closing on the following Friday, October 27. Don’t live in LA? Fear not, SHFT is open 24/7, 365 days a year on www.shft.com. The idea for SHFT arose 6 years ago when Peter and Adrien met and quickly realized that both were feeling rather disillusioned by extreme environmental activists. Both supported the green movement but were unclear about how to go about incorporating it into their every day lives. While granola and Birkenstocks are great, they’re definitely not for everybody. Adrian recognized that, and thus created SHFT. Adrian states in the Huffington Post article “‘It’s really where sustainability meets art and culture. It’s how we want to live. So it’s got to look good, we have to want it. It has to speak to us. So we try to tell the stories of products that are sustainable and meet an artistic aesthetic as well.'”

My favorite section of the SHFT website is the Green Design section, showcasing objects such as lamps made out of recycled metal scraps and a bike made out of bamboo.  Cool!

Do you know of any other celebrities who are involved in the green movement? Can your Action Team take a page out of SHFT’s book and start green pop-ups on your campus?
