Little Rock’s iMatter March Garners Mayor’s Attention

After weeks of planning it seemed like the day of our iMatter marches would never come! Finally though they did, and how wonderful they were. I am extremely proud of all of the march organizers around the globe; we did amazing work and hopefully made great headway in the environmental movement in our communities.
Here in Little Rock I managed to gather together a small but powerful group of youth to show Little Rock what it has in store for itself! Fortunately for all us eco-minded citizens our wonderful Mayor Mark Stodola is just as passionate about saving the planet as we are. Mayor Stodola spoke of the importance of youth activism and dedication and he then even marched with us!
As well as learning more about environmental problems Arkansas and the surrounding area faces and teaching march onlookers this knowledge I learned so much about my capabilities as an organizer.
My mom came into my room a couple nights before the march and saw how stressed and frantic I was. She immediately asked me “what have you learned from planning this march?” As a good mother does-sometimes to their children’s despair-they always find a learning experience out of everything. She was of course right, I have learned the lesson that takes most people years to realize: I cannot do everything.
So not only was this march a success for the City of Little Rock, in that they informed the public that they are fixing this growing problem and that each person can do their part, but it was also a great learning experience for me and has prepared me for future projects I plan. Hopefully Little Rock’s iMatter March will just be the start to all the wonderful projects Little Rock and myself take on!
