Rare Snow Fall Atlanta
By ACE Field Correspondent Jamilah Middlebrooks, student at Riverwood International Charter School
Hey Guys!
It’s Jamilah here-reporting from Sandy Springs, Ga. We recently got a heavy load of snow come in that wiped out an entire week of school! How exciting is that? Other parts of our country are also getting slammed with record snowfall.
The weird thing about it is that Georgia rarely suffers from snow storms. The last time Atlanta suffered from something near this extreme was in 1982. However, even that did not stop school for a whole week. This has been the worst snowstorm in Atlanta history!
The snow was coupled with chilling temperatures that made the ice last for days. There are still traces of snow on the streets outside my house- even my driveway. Now you may ask- Why is it still there? Well Atlanta is not prepared well for snow and we have about six machines for the area that clears the icy roads.
There are definitely climate changes that are taking place. The abnormal temperatures and strange weather patterns are leaving many Georgia residents boggled. It is our second harsh winter in a row!
Now with all of that said- Can we really be certain that Global Warming is occurring? What is really going on? Check out this post here from ACE’s team scientist Rebecca Anderson on why global warming can mean strange weather patterns and perhaps even more snow for parts of our country.
Anyway, that’s all for now folks. It’s been fun. Wishing You A Happy New Year!
