Social Media Manager

Location: Remote, working from a home office

JOB SUMMARY

The Social Media Manager will work to advance ACE’s mission and grow the impact of its program via a strong, engaging social media presence across many ubiquitous youth channels. The primary responsibilities include contributing to and executing a dynamic social media strategy that elevates youth power within the climate movement. The ideal candidate should have general knowledge and interest in climate change and justice, as well as a passion for young people’s role in solving the climate crisis. Please note, this is not an entry-level position.

The Social Media Manager will regularly distill and articulate complex, intersecting issues related to climate, energy, and other social justice causes, and routinely incorporate new techniques and tactics for engaging our audiences via many social media platforms simultaneously, including, but not limited to TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and others as they emerge.

In this position, the Social Media Manager will work to strengthen ACE’s role and impact in the broader climate movement, advocating for an end to the era of fossil fuels, demanding a swift and equitable transition to renewable energy, and fighting to increase diverse youth participation in our democracy. 

This is a full-time position based anywhere in the United States. The Social Media Manager will work from home, meet as required by video chat with teams, and have weekly national full staff meetings with colleagues online. Travel will be required when safe to relevant events, staff retreats, and other convenings as needed. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Co-develop ACE’s social media strategy with the Associate Director of Storytelling, Campaign Director, Directors of Digital Strategy, and Head of Education and Storytelling, to ensure tight alignment with ACE’s key programmatic areas, including:
    • Education and Storytelling
    • Advocacy, Campaigns and Civic Engagement
    • Youth Action Network
    • Distributed Organizing Program
  • Manage all aspects of social media content production, distribution, engagement, and analysis including, but not limited to: 
    • Leading the ideation of new content and designs, in tight alignment with ACE program needs, and responding to current trends
    • Representing social media team in weekly program meetings
    • Leading content development and production
    • Scheduling and publishing content while building and managing a social media content calendar
    • Community and social resource/assets management
    • Optimizing posts for engagement, search, conversion and other metrics
    • Maintaining ACE voice and tone, while copywriting across multiple platforms and adapting language accordingly
    • Support team to advance communications and marketing goals across the organization
  • Stay up to date on trends, audience sentiment and platform innovations, and translate those learnings into actionable insights to:
    • Identify new goals for growth and engagement 
    • Identify emergent channels that center young people (e.g. TikTok, Twitch, and other new mediums) 
  • Serve as an external personality of ACE’s social media presence where needed to:
    • Create and distribute social media toolkits to share with partners, coalitions, and others for ACE-led campaigns and events
    • Participate in producing and hosting live events 
    • Appear regularly in visual content, including videos, microvideos and still graphics 
    • Support brand management across ACE social platforms
  • Manage 1-2 social media interns:
    • Meet weekly in 1:1 meetings with interns
    • Co-develop goals for internship 
    • Co-develop and manage weekly goals and deliverables

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Content Development: Ideate, design, develop, implement and manage engaging content that supports a strong, engaging online social media presence for ACE. 
  • Social Media Strategy: Collaborate on setting social media strategy and goals with other teammates, create engaging campaigns and content, analyze progress, and support management of ACE’s social media channels, including, but not limited to: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and others. Plan and execute social media campaigns that speak to racially, socioeconomically and geographically diverse young people, and other relevant audiences.
  • Digital engagement and outreach: Write and send emails, text messages and other communications to educators, teachers, youth, partners and others, and host and produce frequent live events.
  • ACE Action Team support: Directly support state-based Action Teams around the nation with social media toolkits, resources and other related content for their local campaign work. 
  • Campaign strategy and implementation: Help co-create and implement education and storytelling campaigns to advance the organization’s mission, and engage potentially tens of thousands of young people across the nation. 
  • Stay updated: Keep on top of policies, events, coalitions, campaigns, movement sentiment, and trends across all social platforms. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

An ideal candidate will possess most of the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of work experience in social media coordination or management
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and creativity
  • Experience with social publishing tools and best practices, especially Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube
  • Experience with graphic design, design fundamentals and Canva and Adobe Suite including Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator
  • Knowledge of meaningful SEO, web traffic, and social platform metrics
  • Awareness of the issues impacting young people, including climate change and environmental justice, and a passion for inspiring youth to take action
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate and manage partnerships and internal and external relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; Copywritng and editing experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills (Google Apps, Microsoft Suite, Salesforce, Social Media platforms)
  • Comfortable working remotely and as part of a small team 
  • Experience working with diverse communities

Desired Qualifications:

  • Basic familiarity with, or ability to master, using a Salesforce and or EveryAction database to organize contacts and manage emails
  • Environmental education or environmental justice experience
  • Existing expertise or willingness to master trends in science education, youth development, youth organizing and the climate movement.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

  • Annual salary range: $55,000-$65,800 commensurate with experience
